This week I play the Time Out Rising Stars night at the 229 in Great Portland Street. I was so honoured to be asked to play at their event! We have been getting Time Out delivered to our house ever since I can remember! Its such a great magazine and I was lucky enough to also be given a tour round their offices by the lovely Ray Jones who organised the event!
I have played at the 229 club before years ago when I just left music college. I didn't realise that there was two rooms in the venue, theres a smaller one and a much bigger one! I had played the smaller one before and Tuesday was based in the much larger room. I'd say we played to about 400 people, but I might be wrong.. I know Ray said that he had sold over 300 tickets, so regardless it was a big audience!
Our regular drummer has been out of action for a while with a broken bone in his foot and so we had our del drummer Bemo with us! It was great! It was a really cool night to play! We opened the whole night too, so that did add a bit of pressure but we all coped well with it! Afterwards I had to do a little filmed interview for Time Out to go up on their website but they either haven't uploaded it yet or I can't find it, when I do I'll post it on here, but until then here are some pictures of the night!
On Wednesday this week I was lucky enough to play the support slot for the amazing Mari Wilson's album launch, 'Pop Deluxe' at St James' Theatre in Victoria.
I have supported Mari before and each time it is such a great honour to play at her night! Her album is fantastic and she is so cool!! So cool!! I was lucky enough to get a free copy of the album and I haven't stopped playing it, so if you haven't got a copy already, go and get one!!
As the night was an album launch there is quite a lot of industry people there but Mari is always so calm and cool you don't get stressed out. Thats not to say I wasn't nervous though cause i was so scared!
I played without my band and I only had the time to do 5 songs as they were pushed for time, but that was more then enough for me!
The audience were really great! I can't stress enough how nice it is to play to people who respect music enough to actually listen! Obviously they were all there to see Mari but they were so nice to me too!
I am super lucky to have the opportunity to play and sing! There are big announcements to come on this blog and I can't wait to tell you! To the point where i'll probably just tell you all this week anyway!
This week I have been in bath at Real World Studios with Steve Osbourne. Real World is amazing, its so lovely there. The studio, which is owned by Peter Gabriel, is based in a tiny little village called Box, theres hardly anything in that village apart from the Studio. We recorded 2 and a half songs and they are just demos. I wish I could say that we are realising them in the near future but I honestly don't know when these tracks will be ready and I am not even sure if I am totally honest what we're doing with these demos… But they sound good! As soon as I can I will tell you when they'll be coming out and tell you where you can get them from. This is a super long process, but we will be releasing them at one point so don't worry! Just know that the clogs are moving I just can't promise a time for when they'll be ready… yet!
Anyway.. The studio was amazing! It was so beautiful! The lady who runs the house that you can stay in while you're recording was telling me all about everyone who had stayed there! I had Robbie Williams' room. I absolutely love a name drop. I love stories with name drops in them too, I try and act cool but then I can't really be bothered. Beyonce stayed there. Imagine that! I was so excited!
Watch my vlog here to have a look at what I got up to!
This week I also played at the Heavenly Social club again for a Trojan Record night for the International Ska Festival. I was so scared, cause I was all on my own and Rohda Dakar had been playing some really cool ska tracks before I went on! I was worried that everyone would be like 'why are we watching a skinny little girl with an acoustic guitar, when we could be dancing to Jimmy Cliff?"…. But it was fine! It was really good! I also managed to sell some CD's and people went mad for the badges!
The guy called Gavin who was running the night also works as Boz Borer's guitar tech! So I was desperate to ask him loads of questions about Morrissey!
This week I was asked to go down to The Good Ship in Kilburn and play the QPR Podcast! As a QPR fan I was so excited to be asked to go down and play their end of season live recording! I wrote them a special song for them to record which included most of the names of the players! It was great to write a song like that, although some of them do have tricky names to find things to rhyme with! The reaction was great and it has seemed to go down really well on twitter! I have even been tweeted by our forward Sebastian Poulter, which was very exciting! It was so nice to be asked to do it! I was really really nervous about doing it, so nervous that I even spelt my own name wrong… The guys hosting the show asked me the name of my website and I spelt my surname wrong when I answered him.. Embarrassing!
Here is a link to the show, I am on first!
Last night I played at the Old Blue Last in East London. It was so hot in there it was mental. We did have a lot of drummer drama this week! Our drummer Pete has broken a bone in his foot, so he is out of action for a few weeks, we are all wishing him a speedy recovery! We were joined by our replacement drummer Bemo, who is fantastic! We were able to fit in a rehearsal this week and so just all got to soundcheck early and managed to squeeze in a few more numbers with trickier drum beats so Bemo had a bit of practice. I t does show how good he is at drums that he didn't even really get a rehearsal and he was still able to do such a good job at the gig, and he was willing to supply his own drum kit!
The gig went really well, it was odd not playing at The Dublin Castle on a Monday night but we had a great time!!
This week I am off to Real World Studios to do some recording, see you next Monday
.This week I was featured on The Artist Connection Podcast. This is a podcast run by a lovely man called Matt Kacar and he runs a radio station in Pennsylvania in America. I was so honoured to have been a guest on his show and he was so lovely! In an extremely naive way, I wasn't sure he would get all my references and even have heard of my influences, cause not all British music is that big in America, but Matt had heard of everyone!

Also this weekend I played at the Portobello Festival. I did both nights, the first night I played at a venue called Westbank and the second night I played a venue called Mode. The festival is similar to The Camden Crawl that happens every year in June in North London. Basically, 5 different venues put on lots of bands over two days and all the venues were based around Portobello Road!
Here's the posters for the two nights I played!
I won't lie the first night I played at Westbank didn't really go to planned, but some gigs aren't always fantastic! There was timing issues and sound issues, as well as a lot of drunk people! I didn't get boo'ed off stage or anything that bad but it just wasn't the best gig I have ever played. The second night at Mode was much better. I could hear myself and people were listening and showing an interest and it went a lot better! Then to top off the night I saw Mick Jones at the back of the venue! He had caught the end of my set!
Everybody who has ever met me knows that I am the biggest Clash fan of all time and so meeting Mick was amazing! He was so nice and he was really approachable, I was lucky enough to get some photos with him too! People say 'don't meet your heroes' but Mick was amazing! I was sort of able to hold my cool and not totally lose it and act like a massive fan girl, but I was so thankful to meet him!
also need to thank my friend Debbie and her lovely niece Jasmine for supporting me over the two days!
Here is a photo of me and Mick!
Also this week we announced we were playing this years Secret Garden Party! Very exciting news.. watch this space though, more festival announcements to come!
